How to take the baby's temperature?

Several areas of the body where body temperature is recorded, whose measurement indicates whether or not there fever:

Armpit or groin: are the best areas where the temperature of our baby take its ease of access. (These areas are usually half a degree below the exact body temperature)

Mouth is quite uncomfortable recording area where the temperature achieved, mainly because it may be very inaccurate in relation to the actual body temperature.

Rectum is inadvisable to take the baby's temperature in this area because of the difficulty of introducing and the risk of breakage or injury that may occur (should never use mercury thermometers in this area)

Ear measurement is very reliable and fast (a few seconds) using specific thermometers for this area.

Types of thermometers

In the market there are different types of thermometers that take the temperature of our babies. We can group mainly in contact thermometers and non-contact.

Depending on how old you baby, we will be more useful and effective as the method you have to take the temperature every model.

Mercury thermometers: they are glass thermometers with mercury in it (mercury expands on contact with the child showing the degrees of temperature) However, for years the European Union withdrew these thermometers from the market by its high level of Toxicity in case of breakage.

Pacifier thermometers: the mechanism is the same as that of conventional pacifiers, but have an LCD display that indicates the temperature of the baby when it suctions. You think that this model of thermometers are for a more limited range or specific age (maybe we will see more limited in their use, there are babies who do not use pacifiers)

Ear thermometers: they are very accurate, take the temperature through the ear, specifically the internal carotid artery passes through one side of the neck and behind the ear.

Its tip is soft and delicate, is placed in the ear and measuring time (within seconds) and easy and fast reading (digital screen) make it very useful to use. This type of thermometer can be used for a much wider range of age.

Digital thermometers: They are substitutes for old glass thermometers. They are very easy, comfortable to wear and the measurement is very fast. Operate using batteries, they are made of plastic (thereby avoiding breakage) and its tip is wielded and flexible so as not to hurt the baby.

Generally integrate similar to other thermometers described functions: memory of the last measurement, fever warning by beeper, auto power off, notice of completion of temperature taking, etc. This type of thermometer is ideal for use with older children, with small babies are more complicated to use because they are more annoying.

Thermometers forehead is non-contact thermometers, which measure the baby's temperature by capturing the infrared heat emitted in the front of the babies. They are very fast, however, and although more and more modern and advanced, their measurements are not very accurate.

Plastic strips: these strips that are placed on the baby's forehead and measure temperature having this in a moment. These models are not widespread because their measurements are rather indicative.
